Description: 3rd Annual OVER THE RAINBOW FESTIVAL in Mount Vernon High School February 26 and 27, 2010 Suggested donation of $5 Presented by the Mount Vernon High School Gay/Straight Alliance DATES INCLUDE: Friday, 2/26: 7-9:30 PM--Showing of the documentary STRAIGHTLACED: HOW GENDER'S GOT US ALL TIED UP, with post-film discussion led by one of the producers, Brittney Shepherd Saturday, 2/27: 10 AM - 9 PM--Tentative program: Opens with Spoken Word Performance by MVHS GSA students, followed by 3 workshop sessions (1.5 hours each, two workshops per session). Workshop topics include the following: Gender Identity (Elayne Wylie of the Ingersoll Gender Center, including Dr. Laird Patterson of Seattle). Healthy Relationships/ Healthy Sex (panel led by Linda Jordan, psychology professor at Skagit Valley College, including Dr. Melissa Ashby) Evergreen AIDS Foundation (Assistant Director, Scott Bertani), and Skagit Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services). Gay History 101 (co-presented by Gary Atkins, professor at Seattle University and author of GAY SEATTLE, and Carol Guess, professor of LGBT studies at Western Washington University and lesbian poet). Queer People of Color (panel of a variety of ethnic-based gay groups from Seattle). How to Address Homophobia in Daily Life (presented by Safe Schools Coalition). Being Religious and Being Gay (led by area gay clergy). A fabulous Cake Walk/Auction and Sale will go on throughout the day. Many information tables from area agencies and organizations will be available. Fantastic evening performance by members of the Seattle Men's Chorus and (possibly) up-and-coming singer/songwriter/ MVHS grad Chris Riffle of New York .
